My friend Dannielle Tegeder gave me a call and asked if I could help out a Nigerian artist with a place to stay for a week. They had done the Triangle Arts Residency together in Brooklyn a month before. I was happy to give Akirash a place to stay for a week. Turns out he was here the exact week that horrible Hurricane Sandydestroyed NYC and crippled the subway lines. So Akirash’s original plans of exploring NYC some more and having meetings with people here and there was all scratched. Instead he and I were in close quarters of my apartment. His amazing laugh would echo through the walls and we took a few walks in Prospect Park to witness the damage by Sandy. Turns out that Akirash does some exceptional and thought provoking art work. Since he stayed with me for a few days before we finally were able to get a bus to a photo booth – I consider him someone I know and someone I don’t know!
